Rhys Hawkens defeated Kevin Evans in the event's dark match.Extreme Created Championship Wrestling presents...Sunday, July 22, 2012 || 8:00 PM ET || Phoenix, Arizona || US Airways Center A grand pyro display of yellows and oranges lights up the set for ECCW's fourth annual Gold Rush pay-per-view event. With every title in ECCW on the line tonight, there's no telling what could happen. Tonight is the final chance for the superstars of Terror and Crush to make an impact on pay-per-view before the second biggest night of the year; Summer Smash, happening just next month. With six title defenses and two grudge matches scheduled for tonight, championship match number one kicks off the night, as the bell sounds for the ECCW Legend's Championship match.1: ECCW Legend's Championship Match Alex Nova (c) vs. Angel
Angel, who has been receiving a mixed crowd reaction throughout the match, hits his signature single knee facebuster on Alex Nova as a means of declaring that the match is approaching its end. Angel follows up the move with his finishing submission Crucifixion, hoping to get the Legend's Champion to give in and tap out. As Angel stretches Nova, there seems to be no way out. Nova uses all of his strength to inch his way towards the ropes, which he finally manages to do, after a very dramatic struggle. Nova tries to stop and catch his breath, but Angel is smart enough to understand that he isn't able to allow Nova to do that. Angel gets Nova up and sets him on the top turnbuckle. As Angel climbs onto the second rope, it becomes apparent what he is looking to do, and that is hit the Heaven to Hell super DDT. Nova fights with Angel up in the high rent district before shoving him off the second rope, where it now seems as though Nova has the advantage. Nova goes for the DFA, but Angel slips out of the way just in time. Angel kips up and hits the ropes, but Nova is quick to stand back up as well. As Angel tries to duck, it doesn't seem to matter, as Nova lifts his leg and hits a devastating Karma Injection! The crowd cheers and Nova hooks the leg and covers for the one, two, three.
Winner: Alex Nova (c) Pinfall @ 12:38 | After the match, Alex Nova is all smiles as the referee hands him his newly retained ECCW Legend's Championship belt. He celebrates with it as the fans cheer him on, but soon he notices Angel beginning to stir. Approaching the rising Angel, Nova extends his hand for a shake, which Angel seems to accept. The crowd applauds the sportsmanship, that is, until Angel backstabs Nova with a kick to the gut. Nova falls to his knees as Angel exits the ring to a chorus of boos. Being the fighting champion that he is, Nova doesn't stay down for long. He gets up a little too late to catch up to Angel, but he is soon walking back up the ramp. Just as he turns to head backstage, he runs right into a big boot from a returning Keith Golden! An unexpected Golden return at Gold Rush has taken place, and it looks as though he has his sights on Alex Nova!
Once the reactions from the previous assault settle, a video package to hype Summer Smash, the second biggest event on the ECCW calendar, is shown on the big screen. The big show will take place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California, coming live on Sunday, August 26, 2012.2: ECCW Pure Championship Match Zayten (c) vs. Jeffrey O'Walker
Zayten, now fast approaching his seventh month as ECCW Pure Champion, has beaten Jeffrey O'Walker in the past, but seems to be having a bit more trouble putting him away this time around, as the match has thus far gone on for a longer amount of time than any of the two's previous bouts. Many times so far it has been the case that Zayten has come very close to putting O'Walker away, but it has yet to happen. O'Walker, now building momentum back up following Zayten's most recent of attempts to end the match, hits a dropkick on Zayten, slamming him down to the mat. O'Walker gets up and takes the time to taunt to the fans, who all seem to be booing him. Zayten tries to use the distraction to his advantage as a desperate attempt to retain, aiming for a superkick but missing. This allows O'Walker to swoop in and hit a vulnerable Zayten with his own finisher! The crowd doesn't want the long reign to end like this, but after a decisive three count, that becomes a reality.
Winner: Jeffrey O'Walker Pinfall @ 15:27 | Backstage, the cameras take us to the scene of a developing story, as someone has attacked Michael Ausberry. Terror GM Robert Cairo's cohorts are standing beside him as Ausberry is taken away by a team of paramedics. Roger Studley asks him if he should get someone to check the cameras to see who was the culprit. Cairo shrugged off the offer, deeming it wasn't necessary. Big Roy then chimes in, asking if he should inform everyone else that Ausberry will be replaced by Venom in the match for the vacant ECCW Television Championship later tonight. Cairo says that Venom already lost his shot on last Monday's Terror and that he has it all under control. He then walks off, leaving the rest behind, standing there clueless as to Cairo's plans.3: ECCW Tag Team Championships Match Christopher Styles and Oliver Walker (c) vs. Hassan and Abdullah
By no means has this match been a pretty one; the fans don't care for either tag team, while they've both played dirty throughout. If anything, the fans are more behind Christopher Styles and Oliver Walker, deeming them the lesser of the two evils. Styles has full control over Abdullah, who has been continuously attempting to tag in his partner Hassan, but has been unable to do so successfully. With his options running low, Abdullah's situation gets even more unfortunate when Styles' single leg Boston crab turns into a double leg version. Abdullah crawls towards his corner, but Styles pulls him back into the middle of the ring. That is when Hassan decides that he has seen enough, as he gets into the ring and breaks up the hold. This prompts Walker to also enter the ring and try to get rid of Hassan. He fails at doing so, as Hassan Irish whips him over the top rope. Hassan then tends to Abdullah, yelling at the referee, who is trying to tell him to get back on the apron. Hassan and Abdullah are both on all fours, next to each other, as Hassan is trying to will Abdullah on. The referee begins a five count to warn Hassan. This doesn't even matter because Styles makes a crafty move, hitting the Knee Trembler on Abdullah and causing a domino effect, taking out both Hassan and Abdullah at once. The crowd, love or hate Styles, eats the move up and can't help but be happy as Styles gets the pin.
Winners: Christopher Styles and Oliver Walker (c) Pinfall by Styles on Abdullah @ 10:02 | An interviewer is standing by backstage with the current ECCW Heavyweight Champion Dan Maskell, who appears to be as confident as ever. The interviewer asks Maskell about his strategy heading into a title defense against the craziest opponent possible in Surge. Maskell says that Surge is no stranger to him and that he will take the match how he takes any other. He says that he is not going to give away his strategy, but makes a guarantee that whether Cyrus Black likes it or not, he is better than him, and he will prove it by defeating Surge, something that Black had trouble doing back in the days of EFNW.4: Grudge Match Jarrett Calloway vs. Ali Fernando
Jarrett Calloway is going a mile a minute, connecting with three clotheslines in a row and then a Lou Thesz press, perhaps surprising Ali Fernando as he unleashes a series of punches. Fernando fights his way out of it, as both men get to their feet rather quickly. Fernando goes for a big boot, but misses his target, as Calloway tries for a roll up. Fernando kicks out at the two. Again, they each get up fairly quickly, but this time it is Fernando who picks up the upper hand, headbutting Calloway. Continuing the attack, he appears to be doing a good job of wearing out Calloway. He hits the Cabazon to add to the domination. As Calloway fights his way to his feet, Fernando tries to take a page out of his opponent's book and hit a spear to add insult to injury, but Calloway dodges it and tries for an Icebreaker, but Fernando connects with a stiff elbow to the side of the head, dizzying Calloway. As Calloway somewhat regains his composure, he hits the ropes but is surprised to see Fernando on the way back, acting like a wall and stopping Calloway, picking him up and slamming him down into the Time Warp chokebomb, the second time the move has been hit on Calloway! While the first finisher produced a resilient kick out at the two count by Calloway, there is no such luck the second time around.
Winner: Ali Fernando Pinfall @ 19:55 | The victory scene for Ali Fernando is almost surreal, having earned a decisive win over Jarrett Calloway, something he hasn't done since this time last year. Will Fernando be satisfied with this one win as revenge or will he seek further redemption on Calloway? And will Calloway accept the loss and move on or want to rematch and get some revenge of his own? These are all questions that should be answered in the near future.
The cameras pan backstage again as the fans get a glimpse of the office of Richie, the Crush GM. Standing in his office is Adam Jones, the third and most recent entrant into the ECCW World Championship match scheduled for later in the evening. Jones is telling Richie how he did not make a mistake in giving him a second chance in getting into the match, but Richie doesn't seem to care enough to really be listening. Eventually, Jones gets the memo and leaves, but not before declaring that Richie happened to be looking at the next ECCW World Champion and the next big thing.5: ECCW Television Championship Match Will Williams vs. ? ? ? ?
As it turns out, Robert Cairo was suspiciously prepared for Michael Ausberry to be unable to compete tonight as Angel Rodriguez has stepped up to the plate instead, a superstar who has enjoyed much success in other promotions, but has only appeared once or twice before in an ECCW ring. This time though, he seems intent on winning a title and making a name for himself in ECCW. Will Williams gets Rodriguez into position for the Dream Crusher, which would be the second one of the match, but Rodriguez stops the attempt, situating himself on the ring apron. As Williams looks to clothesline him off, Rodriguez ducks down and shoulders Williams in the gut before flipping over the top rope and into the ring with a sunset flip pin, seeing Williams power out at two. The exchange eventually advances to Williams' third go at the Dream Crusher, but again, Rodriguez gets out of it, pulling Williams into El Niño Planter, his spiked DDT finisher. The crowd can't help but boo as Rodriguez gets the win and the title.
Winner: Angel Rodriguez Pinfall @ 16:10 | After the match, Angel Rodriguez snatches up the ECCW Television Championship and a microphone as well, as he heads up the ramp walking backwards. He cuts a miniature promo on his way backstage, all of it in Spanish. The highlight remark of the promo had to be "Voy a hacer este título prestigioso una otra vez," which translates into English as "I'm going to make this a prestigious title once again."6: EFNW Extreme Rules Match Harry Jones vs. Omega
This match never actually got started, as Omega and the fans all anxiously awaited the arrival of Harry Jones, but that moment never arrived. Much like last Friday on Crush, Harry Jones seems to be nowhere to be found. Omega smirked at the absence of Jones, chalking it up to cowardice. He then insisted and soon demanded that the referee inform the ring announcer that Harry Jones has forfeited the match, wanting to be called the winner. At the risk of physical harm, the referee and ring announcer each comply and the "official" announcement is made.
Winner: Omega Forfeit @ 0:00 | Omega acts as if he has done something outstanding as he heads back up the ramp with a big grin on his face. The crowd hates the sight, booing as loud as they possibly can. Omega loves the boos though, as he takes them in one last time before heading to the back. The commentators audibly wonder where Harry Jones could be and why he no showed the match. Nonetheless, two matches remain and they are each for one of the two most prestigious titles in ECCW today. The ECCW Heavyweight Championship match is announced as being up next.7: ECCW Heavyweight Championship Match Dan Maskell (c) vs. Surge
Following much back and forth action, it seems as though Surge might have Dan Maskell finally put away. As he sets up for the Psycho Driver, which the fans would just love to see hit, Maskell halts the attempt by scurrying out of the ring before any damage can be done. Not willing to play Maskell's games, Surge chases after him. In a humorous lap around the ring, Maskell eventually slides back into the ring, but Surge does the same. They both go towards one another, as Surge looks for an STO. Maskell gets out of Surge's way though, bashing him on the back of the head with what is later noticed to be brass knuckles and smashing him down to the mat with a Big Ben Bash DDT. A moan of discontent is heard throughout the crowd as their hopes are crushed. Maskell retains.
Winner: Dan Maskell (c) Pinfall @ 20:24 | Yet another Summer Smash hype video airs, this one centering around the theme of past Summer Smash moments, reviewing the event's history, from Jarrett Calloway's leap off the Hell in a Cell at the very first one all the way up to last year's championship scramble that began the EFNW drama.7: ECCW World Championship Match Peter Linch (c) vs. Dustin Shore vs. Adam Jones
With Peter Linch on the outside, Dustin Shore gets the fans riled up before setting up the Shore Leave on Adam Jones. Once Jones stands up, Shore sets up the move and is able to connect with it, as the fans roar in the thought that Linch's title could be taken away without him even being pinned. The referee drops down into a dramatic count, but Linch pulls Shore out of the ring at the last second, tossing him to the side and slipping into the ring, trying to pick up the pieces and go for the cover on Jones himself, but Jones miraculously kicks out at the two count, having had a bit more time to recover. Linch gets Jones up in hopes of hitting a finisher of his own, but Jones has some fight left in him, Irish whipping the champion into a corner. This is when Shore gets back into the game and kicks Jones in the gut, tossing him over the top rope and unofficially eliminating him for the time being. Linch gets out of the corner and forces Shore in his place, delivering punch after punch after punch. Soon, the Crush GM Richie heads down to the ring. Both men act like they don't know what is happening. Shore seems to take it as encouragement, as he switches spots with Linch and goes on the attack. It is at that moment that Richie hops up onto the ring apron and behind the referee's back, whose view was apparently blocked, slams Shore's head into the top rope, causing him to lose the upper hand in the match and stumble backward, which allows Linch to scoop him up and hit the Bank on It, dropping down into a cover and retaining, much to the fans' disappointment.
Winner: Peter Linch (c) Pinfall @ 17:43 |
