~~January 1st 2001 - Royal Rumble 2001~~

The year 2001 started off with a bang as Commissioner Debra proclaimed that she was going to take WWF to new heights and booked a fatal four way for the WWF Championship at the Royal Rumble between Kurt Angle, The Rock, Steve Austin and Triple H.

The four men would battle back and forth over the weeks leading up to the Royal Rumble in tag team matches and singles matches. Kurt Angle was successful in most of these matches leading people to believe he would retain his gold at the Rumble.

On the mid-card side of things, Chris Jericho demands a shot at the Intercontinental title. He and Benoit brawl with Benoit getting the upperhand. The next week, during a match between Benoit and Mark Henry, Chris Jericho attacked Benoit and laid claim to a title match at the Royal Rumble.

In the tag team division, E&C would make fun of all the other tag teams calling them losers and such. Commissioner Debra proceeds to put them in a tag team turmoil for their titles. E&C first defeat Kai-En-Tai easily. In the second match, E&C just manage to defeat T&A. By the third match they are super tired but they manage to defeat Too Cool. In the fourth match, The Acolytes defeat E&C thus ensuring new tag champions. In the fifth and final matchup, The Dudley Boys defeat The Acolytes to win the WWF Tag Team championships. E&C would immediately claim their rematch clause for the Royal Rumble.

Not much happened in the women's division besides a Women's title match between Ivory and Chyna being booked for the Rumble.
