ECCW; Iron-Grip on the Wrestling World?
The wrestling world as we know it had always been dominated by 'The Big Two' -- ECCW and CWW respectively. XCW, when hitting it's peak, was heavily challenging not only to break into 'The Big Two' but to become the undisputed number one wrestling promotion on the planet. The sudden illness and subsequent bankruptcy of XCW owner Tom Bamford brought the 'People's Promotion' to an startling end. Alongside the three mentioned promotions was EFNW. EFNW gathered a rabid cult following over the years and was widely accepted as the most passionate and innovative promotion in wrestling. Their die-hard fans and their alternative wrestling soon made EFNW must-see wrestling and when XCW when under, EFNW picked up their old cable and PPV providers and sat proudly as a globally recognized company. Travis Jones suddenly put EFNW on hiatus - a move that bewildered fans worldwide. This would very nearly prove to be a masterstroke. During the EFNW hiatus ECCW swept the floor ratings-wise with their only remaining competition - CWW. CWW hit an all-time low and just as it seemed things couldn't get any worse EFNW came back out of hibernation -- all guns blazing. EFNW came equipped with some new management grounding the wildness of Travis Jones and with what people to this day call the best roster ever in professional wrestling. EFNW's re-emergence was the final nail in the coffin for CWW. Not longer after CWW went under EFNW went full-steam ahead and challenged ECCW directly. After a power-struggle EFNW were now on top and Matthew Jericho was left with a big decision - what the fuck should he do? In a move which many considered slightly unbecoming of ECCW, Jericho went to war with Travis Jones and EFNW. The battle raged on for neigh on a year and when the dust had settled - ECCW were on top and had
bought EFNW out. Several small time promotions surfaced but were quickly kicked to the curb. ECCW now stands as the only and undisputed promotion of wrestling. This begs an interesting question -- will ECCW ever be challenged again?
Just a small thing to get back into it, I'm kinda rusty. Comments and thoughts would be nice. What could have been done differently throughout the years by various promotions. Other than Cyrus Black when EFNW were shortly on top - was there any game changers? Will ECCW realistically ever be challenged again?
