One would think that after a long and grueling campaign season that Americans would be sick and tired of presidential politics. A lot of them probably are; but that isn't stopping them from answering to a survey done by PPP (Public Policy Polling), a Democratic-leaning polling company that took their business to New Hampshire this week to get an early idea of who the Democrats and Republicans are favoring to run for president four years from now.

The Democrats:

Hillary Clinton is the favorite and overwhelmingly so. She is the wife of former President Bill Clinton and the current Secretary of State, though she intends to leave that position in January. She also served as a New York Senator. If elected, she would be the first female president in US history. She came close in 2008, almost winning the Democratic nomination, but just falling short of Barack Obama, who went on to be the party nominee and the next president. She received upwards of 60% in the poll.

The current Vice President of the United States Joe Biden comes in second place; if you take out Hillary, he becomes the front-runner. Many Republicans probably welcome this, as he is often labeled as an "easy target." Prior to serving as Barack's VP, he was also a 2008 presidential candidate and a longtime Delaware Senator.

Third in the poll was current Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo, fourth was newly-elected Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, and fifth was the current Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, who took over for famed Republican Mitt Romney years ago. Coming up short in the poll (failing to reach 5%) were Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley, Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer, and Virginia Sen. Mark Warner.

The Republicans:

First in the Republican poll was current New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who has made a name for himself in politics for having a loud mouth and big personality, often praised (and criticized) for telling it like it is. He cracked just above 20% in the poll, making him the early favorite for Republicans, though not as decisive a favorite as Hillary for the Dems.

Coming up second is Florida Senator Marco Rubio, who along with Christie was widely debated as being a possible VP pick for Mitt Romney in 2012. He is one of two current latino Republican Senators in the US and is seen as a young, conservative star in his party.

In third place is former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, who served during President George W. Bush's second term in office. Rubio has the ability to appeal to young voters and latino voters, but Rice, being an African-American female, could help the Republicans gain votes from blacks and women alike. If elected, she would be the first female president, like Hillary.

Rounding out the top five were former Florida Governor Jeb Bush (the brother of former president George W. Bush and son of former president George H.W. Bush) and Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, who has gained fame for not only being an economics whiz but also for being Mitt Romney's running mate in 2012. Ranking lowest out of those named in the poll were former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul (son of Ron Paul), and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, who came close to the 2012 Republican nomination, falling short of Mitt Romney.

A quick list of those named in this piece (in alphabetical order) -

Democrats: Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Andrew Cuomo, Martin O'Malley, Deval Patrick, Brian Schweitzer, Mark Warner, Elizabeth Warren

Republicans: Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Mike Huckabee, Sarah Palin, Rand Paul, Condoleezza Rice, Marco Rubio, Paul Ryan, Rick Santorum

There are a number of other possible candidates.
