The Universe's March Madness Empty
PostSubject: The Universe's March Madness   The Universe's March Madness EmptySat Feb 25, 2012 10:34 pm

Inspired by NCAA's March Madness we will be hosting a 64 man wrestling March Madness. The 64 men are the top 64 of the 2011 PWI Top 500. In the following post the brackets for the first round will be posted and everyone votes once. The votes will be tallied in a weeks time and we'll move onto the second round with the highest vote getters from each match up advancing. In the first round 1st verses 64, 2nd verses 63, 3rd verses 62 and so forth until everyone is paired up. In the rounds preceeding all match ups will be at random. Feel free to give your thoughts on everyone you voted, discuss other peoples thoughts, who you think will win etc.

Yes, because wrestlers would rather be recognized for 5-star matches from the Observer, or the Hall of Fame, instead of actually having World Titles or something...

The Universe's March Madness Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Universe's March Madness   The Universe's March Madness EmptySat Feb 25, 2012 11:01 pm

The Miz (PWI 2011 #1) vs. Go Shiozaki (PWI 2011 #64)
Go Shiozaki
A few months ago it may have been a tougher decision for me but The Miz has gone down hill dramatically recently, easy decision.

Randy Orton (PWI 2011 #2) vs. Brother Devon (PWI 2011 #63)
Randy Orton
Another easy decision for me, Randy Orton has had a steller year and Devon just doesn't match up.

John Cena (PWI 2011 #3) vs. Douglas Williams (PWI 2011 #62)
John Cena
Another relatively easy decision for me. As much as I like Douglas Williams John Cena is leagues ahead overall.

Kane (PWI 2011 #4) vs. Justin Gabriel (PWI 2011 #61)
Kane
Justin Gabriel isn't even close at this point in his career. May be different in a few years time.

Takashi Sugiura (PWI 2011 #5) vs. Abyss (PWI 2011 #60)
Takashi Sugiura
Can't stand Abyss, easy choice.

Alberto Del Rio (PWI 2011 #6) vs. Gunner (PWI 2011 #59)
Alberto Del Rio
Another easy choice for me, can't believe Gunner even made the top 100.

Mr. Anderson (PWI 2011 #7) vs. Negro Casas (PWI 2011 #58)
Negro Casas
Mr. Anderson is very overrated in my opinion, easy decision.

Rey Mysterio (PWI 2011 # vs. Mark Henry (PWI 2011 #57)
Mark Henry
Probablly the toughest decision so far. Rey Mysterio has been extremley consistent and an incredible draw for a long time now, but I just can't look past Henry's past year and the Hall of Pain.

Eddie Edwards (PWI 2011 #9) vs. D’Angelo Dinero (PWI 2011 #56)
D'Angelo Dinero
May not be doing much but at least he isn't helping ruin Ring of Honor, fuck Edwards.

CM Punk (PWI 2011 #10) vs. Hernandez (PWI 2011 #55)
CM Punk
... CM Punk

Rob Van Dam (PWI 2011 #11) vs. Togi Makabe (PWI 2011 #54)
Rob Van Dam
Bit of a mark for RVD.

Sheamus (PWI 2011 #12) vs. Seth Rollins (PWI 2011 #53)
Sheamus
Not a big fan of Rollins/Black and Sheamus has had a pretty good year, could go far with a kind draw.

Roderick Strong (PWI 2011 #13 vs. Drew McIntyre (PWI 2011 #52)
Drew McIntyre
See Edwards v Dinero

Suwama (PWI 2011 #14) vs. R-Truth (PWI 2011 #51)
R-Truth
Loved R-Truth's heel work this year, not sure how I feel about his face run at the moment but his heel stuff was enough to get him over the line in this one.

Daniel Bryan (PWI 2011 #15) vs. El Zorro (PWI 2011 #50)
Daniel Bryan
The guy is golden at the moment, wouldn't be surprised to see him in the finals.

Jeff Hardy (PWI 2011 #16) vs. Adam Pearce (PWI 2011 #49)
Jeff Hardy
This was a tough choice, Hardy's fuck up in the middle of the year nearly lost him my vote but he has come back strong enough to get my vote here.

Dolph Ziggler (PWI 2011 #17) vs. Chris Sabin (PWI 2011 #48)
Dolph Ziggler
Has been great this past year, unfortunate not to get a proper world title run.

Kurt Angle (PWI 2011 #18) vs. Alex Shelley (PWI 2011 #47)
Kurt Angle
Was of the best, ever. Getting up there but still better than most, easy choice.

Wade Barrett (PWI 2011 #19) vs. El Generico (PWI 2011 #46)
El Generico
Tough choice but Wade Barrett's up and down year and the pure awesomeness of Generico got Generico the vote here.

Jeff Jarrett (PWI 2011 #20) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (PWI 2011 #45)
Jeff Jarrett
Has had a decent year, enough to get my vote.

Sting (PWI 2011 #21) vs. Antonio Cesaro (PWI 2011 #44)
Antonio Cesaro
Tough choice, Sting is one of the best ever but Castagnoli is brilliant, gets the vote here.

Hiroshi Tanahashi (PWI 2011 #22) vs. Sin Cara (PWI 2011 #43)
Hiroshi Tanahashi
Sin Cara's run in WWE was too ... botched to get my vote here, couple that with his injury and it's an easy choice.

Ultimo Dragon (PWI 2011 #23) vs. Samoa Joe (PWI 2011 #42)
Samoa Joe
May not be treated with the greatest of respect by TNA but is starting to turn things around with Magnus. Ultimo Dragon is legendary and perhaps in his prime he may have got this one.

AJ Styles (PWI 2011 #24) vs. Satoshi Kojima (PWI 2011 #41)
AJ Styles
Great wrestler, maybe not main-event material but with a good draw may make it far in this.

Davey Richards (PWI 2011 #25) vs. Bully Ray (PWI 2011 #40)
Bully Ray
His heel work has been some of the best in a long, long time. That plus the fact that Davey Richards is the most overrated, untalented, uncharasmtic piece of shit I've ever seen and it's probablly the easiet choice of the tournament.

Christopher Daniels (PWI 2011 #26) vs. Jack Swagger (PWI 2011 #39)
Jack Swagger
Tough choice here, went with Swagger due to his youth and technical abilities.

John Morrison (PWI 2011 #27) vs. Ricky Banderas (PWI 2011 #38)
Ricky Banderas
Not a big fan of Morrison, relatively easy choice for me.

Dr. Wagner Jr. (PWI 2011 #28) vs. James Storm (PWI 2011 #37)
James Storm
Sensational tag team wrestler, good singles run. Wagner is one of the best but I think Storm has the potential to forge an incredible legacy.

Kofi Kingston (PWI 2011 #29) vs. Chris Hero (PWI 2011 #36)
Chris Hero
Pretty easy choice here.

Bobby Roode (PWI 2011 #30) vs. Cody Rhodes (PWI 2011 #35)
Bobby Roode
Tough decision here. These two have had simular years with some of the best heel work we've seen. Went with Roode due to the world title run.

The Big Show (PWI 2011 #31) vs. Kazarian (PWI 2011 #34)
The Big Show
Had some great matches with Mark Henry and Daniel Bryan this year. Easy pick.

Christian (PWI 2011 #32) vs. Matt Morgan (PWI 2011 #33)
Christian
Had a great year, if he didn't get injured he could have gone deep into the tournament.

He's overrated in my opinion. Doesn't sell, not as bad as Davey Richards, but still not great. But that's just my opinion, I love to know why you disagree.

Because Eddie is awesome and is one of the best sellers of all time. And anytime he doesn't it's realistic because Eddie is a total bad ass in real life and doesn't feel pain.

Because Eddie is awesome and is one of the best sellers of all time. And anytime he doesn't it's realistic because Eddie is a total bad ass in real life and doesn't feel pain.

Valid arguement, feel free to participate in the voting.

Some interesting choices there, any reason you chose Gunner of Del Rio?

Its really all about Del Rio in this case. Del Rio has been improving over the past year, but he bores me on the mic day in and day out, every week he gets a microphone in his hands. His ring work bores me as well. Its just strong boredom of Del Rio that can actually make me pick a TNA guy over a WWE guy.

Wow, can't believe how much I disagree lol. Gunner in my opinion is exactly how you described Del Rio but far worse. I guess we just look for different things in rasslers lol.

I think if you did and you'd seen more of Gunner you might have picked Del Rio, but each to their own I guess.

The Universe's March Madness Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Universe's March Madness   The Universe's March Madness EmptySun Feb 26, 2012 12:48 am

The Miz (PWI 2011 #1) vs. Go Shiozaki (PWI 2011 #64)
The Miz, easily. Go Shiozaki may be a better wrestler but Miz is a better overall package.

Randy Orton (PWI 2011 #2) vs. Brother Devon (PWI 2011 #63)
Devon. Basically because I hate Orton.

John Cena (PWI 2011 #3) vs. Douglas Williams (PWI 2011 #62)
Tough contest, I believe John Cena gets a lot of shit and I genuinely like the guy but Williams has had brilliant reigns as X, TV and Tag Champions, is just as capable on the mic and is definately better in-ring. Douglas Williams.

Kane (PWI 2011 #4) vs. Justin Gabriel (PWI 2011 #61)
Gabriel. Kane has been involved in all my least favourite storylines recently.

Takashi Sugiura (PWI 2011 #5) vs. Abyss (PWI 2011 #60)
Sugiura. Fuck Abyss.

Alberto Del Rio (PWI 2011 #6) vs. Gunner (PWI 2011 #59)
Gunner. ADR is boring and the definition of over-push. Never looked like a main event player to me whereas Gunner -- albeit fleetingly -- did. Ref; Anderson splitting him open with a jug.

Mr. Anderson (PWI 2011 #7) vs. Negro Casas (PWI 2011 #58)
Anderspn. Casas is way past it.

Rey Mysterio (PWI 2011 #Cool vs. Mark Henry (PWI 2011 #57)
Usually I'd say Rey but Mark Henry's late '11 was inane. So Henry.

Eddie Edwards (PWI 2011 #9) vs. D’Angelo Dinero (PWI 2011 #56)
Prefer Dinero but they don't match up recently. Eddie.

CM Punk (PWI 2011 #10) vs. Hernandez (PWI 2011 #55)
CM Punk.

Rob Van Damn (PWI 2011 #11) vs. Togi Makabe (PWI 2011 #54)
RVD.

Sheamus (PWI 2011 #12) vs. Seth Rollins (PWI 2011 #53)
Sheamus.

Roderick Strong (PWI 2011 #13 vs. Drew McIntyre (PWI 2011 #52)
strong.

Suwama (PWI 2011 #14) vs. R-Truth (PWI 2011 #51)
Truth. No reason for the last few except I believe the guys I picked are far greater.

Daniel Bryan (PWI 2011 #15) vs. El Zorro (PWI 2011 #50)
Bryan. El Zorro is impressive but the leap Bryan has made is outstanding.

Jeff Hardy (PWI 2011 #16) vs. Adam Pearce (PWI 2011 #49)
Adam Pearce. Basically cause of Hardy's fuck up and the fact I believe Pearce is fiercly underrated.

Dolph Ziggler (PWI 2011 #17) vs. Chris Sabin (PWI 2011 #48)
Ziggles. Injury fucks Sabin from being a real contender.

Kurt Angle (PWI 2011 #18) vs. Alex Shelley (PWI 2011 #47)
Angle v Jarrett was probably the worst feud ever. Shelley.

Wade Barrett (PWI 2011 #19) vs. El Generico (PWI 2011 #46)
Generico due to his impressiveness throughout and Barrett's inconsistency.

Jeff Jarrett (PWI 2011 #20) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (PWI 2011 #45)
Nakamura, no doubt.

Sting (PWI 2011 #21) vs. Antonio Cesaro (PWI 2011 #44)
Hard to judge because of Sting's in and out in-ring role. I'll nod it to Cesaro.

Hiroshi Tanahashi (PWI 2011 #22) vs. Sin Cara (PWI 2011 #43)
Tanahashi. Cara has proved how bad he can be enough times.

Ultimo Dragon (PWI 2011 #23) vs. Samoa Joe (PWI 2011 #42)
Joe. Joe. Joe.

AJ Styles (PWI 2011 #24) vs. Satoshi Kojima (PWI 2011 #41)
AJ. No doubt.

Davey Richards (PWI 2011 #25) vs. Bully Ray (PWI 2011 #40)
Bully Ray. Richards is immensely overrated, Ray is very much so underrated. Ray is actually who I want to win this.

Christopher Daniels (PWI 2011 #26) vs. Jack Swagger (PWI 2011 #39)
Daniels. Swagger faded to nothingness just as quick as he rose to WHC.

John Morrison (PWI 2011 #27) vs. Ricky Banderas (PWI 2011 #38)
Banderas.

Dr. Wagner Jr. (PWI 2011 #28) vs. James Storm (PWI 2011 #37)
Storm. Duh.

Kofi Kingston (PWI 2011 #29) vs. Chris Hero (PWI 2011 #36)
Hero. Kofi is not good in my opinion.

Bobby Roode (PWI 2011 #30) vs. Cody Rhodes (PWI 2011 #35)
Roode easily. Although I expect the fanboys will pick Rhodes.

The Big Show (PWI 2011 #31) vs. Kazarian (PWI 2011 #34)
Kazarian. Some of these match-ups have proven ridiculously easy for me . . .

Christian (PWI 2011 #32) vs. Matt Morgan (PWI 2011 #33)
Christian. Heel turn was shitty but in-ring work was class. Morgan may have stood a chance but for his ridiculous team with Crimson.

The Miz (PWI 2011 #1) vs. Go Shiozaki (PWI 2011 #64)
To me this is a tough decision, though I think Shiozaki is a MUCH better wrestler, Miz had a great year. But Miz's december is still clouding my mind. Fuck it The Miz

Randy Orton (PWI 2011 #2) vs. Brother Devon (PWI 2011 #63)
Orton, no question in my mind.

John Cena (PWI 2011 #3) vs. Douglas Williams (PWI 2011 #62)
I hate Cena. Douglas Williams representing the Commonwealth right here

Kane (PWI 2011 #4) vs. Justin Gabriel (PWI 2011 #61)
First question, how is Kane this high, the only thing I can remember from him is that he missed half the year then put his mask back on. Second question what did Gabriel do last year to get this high. Kane, sadly.

Takashi Sugiura (PWI 2011 #5) vs. Abyss (PWI 2011 #60)
I have watched one 10 minute section of TNA since Slammiversary 2011, and that was the Haskins Aries match where it looked like Haskins broke his neck on the SSP. For that I take Sugiura

Alberto Del Rio (PWI 2011 #6) vs. Gunner (PWI 2011 #59)
ADR for the reasons stated above

Mr. Anderson (PWI 2011 #7) vs. Negro Casas (PWI 2011 #58)
I may still be living in 2007 here, but I'll take MIISSSTTTTEEERRRRR ANDERSON...........ANDERSON

Rey Mysterio (PWI 2011 #Cool vs. Mark Henry (PWI 2011 #57)
I can't vote for someone who missed 3 or 4 months in a year. Henry

Eddie Edwards (PWI 2011 #9) vs. D’Angelo Dinero (PWI 2011 #56)
Haven't watched TNA, can't watch ROH, can someone help me with that problem, so coin flip............
Dinero

CM Punk (PWI 2011 #10) vs. Hernandez (PWI 2011 #55)
CM Punk.

Rob Van Damn (PWI 2011 #11) vs. Togi Makabe (PWI 2011 #54)
RVD.

Sheamus (PWI 2011 #12) vs. Seth Rollins (PWI 2011 #53)
Sheamus.

Roderick Strong (PWI 2011 #13 vs. Drew McIntyre (PWI 2011 #52)
Strong.

Suwama (PWI 2011 #14) vs. R-Truth (PWI 2011 #51)
Truth. I enjoy crazy black people, this is why Charles Barkley makes me laugh.

Daniel Bryan (PWI 2011 #15) vs. El Zorro (PWI 2011 #50)
Bryan. Bring back Cattle Mutilation and I'll be the happiest man in the world

Jeff Hardy (PWI 2011 #16) vs. Adam Pearce (PWI 2011 #49)
Adam Pearce. Because I hate Hardy and I don't watch impact.

Dolph Ziggler (PWI 2011 #17) vs. Chris Sabin (PWI 2011 #48)
Ziggles.

Kurt Angle (PWI 2011 #18) vs. Alex Shelley (PWI 2011 #47)
Angle, mainly because the way I remember him. The best wrestler in TNA.

Wade Barrett (PWI 2011 #19) vs. El Generico (PWI 2011 #46)
Generico. Canadian Bias

Jeff Jarrett (PWI 2011 #20) vs. Shinsuke Nakamura (PWI 2011 #45)
Nakamura. I mean Jeff Jarrett really.

Sting (PWI 2011 #21) vs. Antonio Cesaro (PWI 2011 #44)
If I do understand this correctly, Cesaro is Castagnoli. Therefore Cesaro.

Hiroshi Tanahashi (PWI 2011 #22) vs. Sin Cara (PWI 2011 #43)
I mean it is hard to wrestle when no one else knows how to wok with you. But still Tanahashi

Ultimo Dragon (PWI 2011 #23) vs. Samoa Joe (PWI 2011 #42)
Joe. Ultimo is still wrasslin, well then.

AJ Styles (PWI 2011 #24) vs. Satoshi Kojima (PWI 2011 #41)
AJ.

Davey Richards (PWI 2011 #25) vs. Bully Ray (PWI 2011 #40)
Ummmm, *flips another coin*. Bully Ray

Christopher Daniels (PWI 2011 #26) vs. Jack Swagger (PWI 2011 #39)
Daniels. Same reasons as Adam stated.

John Morrison (PWI 2011 #27) vs. Ricky Banderas (PWI 2011 #38)
Banderas. I cannot vote for someone who was fired this year.

Dr. Wagner Jr. (PWI 2011 #28) vs. James Storm (PWI 2011 #37)
Storm. I loved AMW, loved Beer Money, and the break up idea for an angle seems to be working.

Kofi Kingston (PWI 2011 #29) vs. Chris Hero (PWI 2011 #36)
Hero. I need a HEEEEEEEEERROOOOOOOOOO.

Bobby Roode (PWI 2011 #30) vs. Cody Rhodes (PWI 2011 #35)
Roode. Even more Canadian bias, plus World Title reign trumps Intercontinental reign.

The Big Show (PWI 2011 #31) vs. Kazarian (PWI 2011 #34)
Kaz. I can't take the Big Show seriously.

Christian (PWI 2011 #32) vs. Matt Morgan (PWI 2011 #33)
Christian. Gimme more of dat Canadian Bias.

Great to see you guys participating. Not surprised to see Williams getting votes over Cena, diss appointed though. Just can't see what Williams has done recently to garner this sort of support, I mean Cena did wrestle one of the matches of the year after all.

I picked Abyss because despite not being his biggest fan. I have in the past enjoyed watching him compete and well I am not as familiar with Sugiuria as I am with others on the list.
